Simple Ways to Keep a Tidy Home

Maintaining a clean home can be as tiring as a full-time job, especially if you have a messy family. If you feel like your house is never clean, RCH Cleaning has five tips to help you keep your home tidy.

1 – Clean Up After You’re Done

A few items on the ground can quickly turn into a pile of unmanageable clutter. It can be easy to forget to put away crafting supplies when you finish a project or walk away from a messy kitchen thinking you’ll come back later to clean it up. It’s no fun to clean up old messes, so why not clean up right after you make one? As soon as you’re done with a project or activity, tidy up your mess, so you don’t have to do it later. You’ll thank yourself later when you have an unexpected visitor at your door.

2 – Two Minute Rule

Ever heard of cleaning procrastination? You tell yourself you’ll clean up your mess later but it never really happens. No one likes coming home to a messy house after a long day, but if you’re feeling unmotivated to clean, try the two-minute rule. Give yourself just two minutes to clean up anything and everything you can in that short amount of time. Whether that includes quickly dusting the living room or loading the dishwasher, that’s two minutes of cleaning you got done that you wouldn’t have before. Sometimes a start is all it takes for you to get motivated to clean the rest of the house.

3 – Focus on High Traffic Areas

Most likely, there are areas in your home that get dirty because of high foot traffic. Dirt and dust make their way into other rooms due to busy areas such as the front door or the kitchen. If you can locate and identify the high traffic areas in your home, start with those. Cleaning these areas will reduce the amount of dirt tracked into the rest of your home.

4 – Keep Cleaning Supplies Handy

Convenience is always helpful when it comes to cleaning. You’re more likely to clean if your cleaning products are already located near the messy area. For example, if your cleaning products are in the bathroom, you’ll probably be more likely to clean the tub, the toilet, and the sink. If you find yourself unmotivated to clean specific areas of the house, consider where your cleaning products are. Are they located in a hall closet far away from everything? If so, think about relocating them to a more convenient area, so every room in the house gets some love.

5 – Get Everyone to Help

Cleaning is much easier when there are more hands helping. Instead of spending an entire day cleaning the house by yourself, get everyone in the family involved so each person can tackle a specific area. Cleaning with more people will only take a few hours rather than an entire weekend.
