Summer in Southwest Missouri is a slow boil; in June, things aren’t (normally) too serious yet in terms of straight-up summer heat.
But by late July, the air will already be starting to feel thick enough to sip with a straw—which means there’s some stuff that’ll be a lot less ‘painful’ to get done before that mid summer heat really sets in, so here are some tricks from RCH to getting through your summer-cleaning checklist.
Remember that June still treats us to crisp mornings and the occasional cool front. And that brief window is perfect for tackling indoor projects that benefit from open windows and fresh airflow.
Welcome to the first installment of our Summer Clean-and-Refresh Series. Each month we’ll share a focused, bite-size checklist. Conquer June now, and you’ll cruise into the dog days of summer with a brighter, healthier home.
1. Throw the Windows Wide
Glass (Inside & Out)
Why now? June’s typical lower humidity means fewer streaks and faster drying.
- Mix equal parts distilled water and white vinegar in a spray bottle, then polish with a microfiber cloth.
- Pop out removable screens and rinse with the garden hose; let them dry flat in the sun before reinstalling.
Sills & Tracks
- Vacuum loose debris, then scrub stubborn grime with a toothbrush dipped in warm, soapy water.
- Dry thoroughly to discourage mold.
Blinds & Curtains
- Close blinds one way, dust; reverse, dust again. Try using a dryer sheet to quickly pick up (and not scatter) the dust. For extra-dirty slats, wipe with a damp sock over your hand.
- Toss washable curtain panels into a gentle cold wash; hang outside to drip-dry and avoid shrinkage.
2. Show Your Walls Some Love
- Run a microfiber duster from ceiling to baseboard to capture cobwebs.
- Spot-clean fingerprints around switches and doorframes with a lightly dampened sponge and a drop of dish soap.
- Touch up scuffs with a small artist’s brush—or roll on a fresh color if inspiration strikes!
- Remove artwork, dust frames front and back, and wipe glass with the same vinegar spray you used on windows.
3. Dive Into the Furniture
- Revive tabletops and shelves with wood polish or a mild all-purpose cleaner.
- Slide a crevice-tool attachment along sofa seams to nab popcorn kernels and pet hair.
- Glide felt-padded sliders under legs, move pieces aside, and vacuum underneath.
- Rearrange for a mini makeover—fresh layout, fresh vibe!
4. Finish With the Floors & Rugs
- Sweep or Vacuum wall-to-wall.
- Mop Hard Floors with the manufacturer’s recommended cleaner (skip vinegar on natural stone).
- Shake Out Area Rugs, beat them outside, then vacuum both sides before laying them back down.
5. When to Call the Pros
Remember that not everything you own should necessarily be self-cleaned! There’s some stuff on our June checklist that would be better off handled by the pros. And, while we are consummate professionals at cleaning both residences and places of business, even we rely on others for tricky items like these:
- Exterior windows that require tall ladders – Professional window cleaners have the gear (and insurance) to work safely at height.
- Upholstery or leather that needs deep extraction – A reliable cleaning company knows how to clean these items carefully and thoroughly, without ruining the fabric.
- Wall-to-wall carpet cleaning – Professional carpet cleaners’ hot-water extraction techniques lift embedded grime far better than supermarket steam-cleaner rentals, and won’t shorten carpet life.
Breathe Easy and Enjoy the Breeze
Check these tasks off your June list, and you’ll start summer with clearer views, brighter rooms, and floors you can happily go barefoot on. Need an extra hand—or two dozen? RCH Cleaning is just a call or click away. We’ll handle the cleaning chores you would prefer not to do, so you can savor every remaining cool morning the Ozarks summer has to offer.
