RCH Cleaning understands the appeal of wood. It’s natural, beautiful, and unique. No single wood piece is exactly the same as others, which makes your house feel like a home. In today’s blog from RCH Professional Cleaning, we explain how to clean wood properly to keep it looking like new.

What You’ll Need
For the perfect shine on wood, you’ll need the following items:
- Microfiber Cloths
- Clear Dish Soap
- Semi-Solid Furniture Polish
- Cheesecloth
Wipe Down With Microfiber Cloths
Start by wiping down your wood furniture or wood accents with microfiber cloths. The first cloth should be barely damp. Damp cloths remove dirt, dust, and grime. After you do a once-over with the damp cloth, use a dry microfiber cloth to remove any wetness.
Remove Any Sticky Residue
If you have kids, you know that things can get sticky. Add a drop of clear dish soap to a damp microfiber cloth. Spot-check it on an out-of-sight piece of wood to make sure the furniture’s finish doesn’t get damaged. Then combine a few drops of the dish soap with a cup of water, dip the cloth in it, and gently rub the sticky spot until the stickiness is removed completely. Dry the spot after you’re done. RCH Professional Cleaning recommends removing water from the wood surface as soon as possible to prevent possible damage later.
Shine With Semi-Solid Furniture Wax
Just like you can wax your car with various products, you can do the same with your wood furniture. RCH Professional Cleaning recommends a semi-solid furniture polish (without silicone) for best results. Spray polishes can leave behind a residue. Use a cheesecloth to apply the wax polish to the wood furniture. Let it sit on the wood for a few minutes. Then buff it out with a clean, dry microfiber cloth.
Timing
Consider polishing your wood furniture once a month. Regular cleanings should happen weekly to remove dust and dirt. Clean as-needed for sticky residue, food, or fingerprints. The staff at RCH Professional Cleaning will be happy to clean your wood furniture or wooden fixtures at your home or business.
